Applying for a Reception place for September 2019
The closing date for applications will be the 15 January 2019.

If your child was born between 1 September 2015 and 31 August 2016 they are due to start in the Reception class at a primary school from September 2020.

You must apply for a Reception class for your child even if they attend a school nursery or have an older brother or sister at your preferred school. If your child currently attends a nursery attached to a school this does not give them any priority for a place in Reception at that school.

The eAdmissions website for online applications opened on 1 September 2018 and the closing date for applications was 15 January 2019. There is a link to the website at the bottom of this page. If you are having a technical problem completing your application please email support@eadmissions.org.uk

In-year admissions is the term used when a child is looking for a school place during the academic year.

Applications for in-year admission are usually made when you have moved to or moved house within Waltham Forest and need a new school place for your child as a result of that house move.

You need to fill in an in-year common application form if your child is out of school and of school age, or if you want your child to move from one school to another within the same year group.

Transferring schools for reasons other than a house move

It is extremely important that a child has continuity in their education. For this reason, Waltham Forest Council strongly discourages unnecessary transfers between schools.

If your child is already attending a school, but you feel that a move would be in their best interests, you should discuss your reasons for this with your child’s current school. It is important that you try to resolve any difficulties by working with the school, rather than requesting a transfer.

If you still want to apply for a school transfer then you can fill in an in-year common application form. You will need to provide your reasons for requesting a change of school and set out what you have done to try to resolve the issues with the current school.

Transfers from home education or alternative educational provision

If your child is being educated at home and you now wish them to be considered for a mainstream school, you must also complete an in-year common application form.

Children attending alternative education provision who are ready to attend a mainstream school are normally placed through Waltham Forest’s Fair Access Protocol.

This ensures that the amount of time any child is out of school is kept to a minimum.

Over Subscription Criteria
If no places are available a waiting list is held. Allocations will be made based on a space becoming available for the child at the top of the waiting lists. Waiting lists for Nursery are held within the school, whilst waiting lists for Reception or above are with the borough admissions.
